The football program at Big Walnut High School has grown into one of the most respected and competitive programs in central Ohio, built on a tradition of toughness, discipline, and steady development. Over the years, the Golden Eagles have established a culture rooted in physical play, strong fundamentals, and a commitment to team-first football. What began as a developing program has evolved into a consistent contender, earning respect across the state for its preparation, physicality, and performance under the lights on Friday nights.

One of the defining moments in program history came in 2007, when Big Walnut made a remarkable run to the OHSAA State Championship game. That team set the standard for excellence, showcasing elite talent, resilience, and belief on the biggest stage in Ohio high school football. The 2007 season remains a cornerstone of the program's identity, proving that Big Walnut could compete at the highest level and laying the foundation for future postseason success.

In recent years, the Golden Eagles have built on that legacy with continued playoff success, including two appearances in the OHSAA State Final Four. These historic runs further established Big Walnut as a legitimate force in the state, demonstrating consistency, depth, and the ability to compete deep into November. Reaching the Final Four twice not only elevated the program's profile, but also reinforced a culture of high expectations and championship-level preparation.

Big Walnut's impact extends far beyond high school success, as the program has consistently developed athletes who go on to compete at the next level. Golden Eagles have advanced to top-tier college programs such as Ohio State, Michigan State, Northwestern, Navy, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, and Cincinnati. Most notably, Adam Shaheen rose from Big Walnut to the professional ranks, becoming an NFL Draft pick of the Chicago Bears and later playing for the Miami Dolphins.
